Michael Gallagher is a founder member and former Chair of the Irish Branch of the Emergency Planning Society (EPS).
He is a member of the Business Continuity Institute, a Fellow of the Emergency Planning Society, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, and a Fellow of the Irish Computer Society.
Michael worked as a management consultant with Price Waterhouse & Co. – now PwC - before joining RTÉ where he was Head of Information Technology for many years.
Then as Head of Management Services he was responsible for initiating and implementing RTÉ’s business continuity management programme. This also included responsibility for RTÉ’s public service obligations in relation to the handling of major or national disasters.
Michael has written extensively on IT policy and management issues and more recently on emergency management and business continuity matters.
He is the author of a number of highly acclaimed books. His book “Business Continuity Management – How to Protect your Company from Danger” was published by Financial Times / Prentice Hall in their Executive Briefing series and is regarded as a leading book on the subject.
As a business continuity consultant he has worked with organisations in both the public and private sectors. These have included state bodies and he has considerable experience of working in manufacturing and pharmaceutical companies.
As well as his work in Ireland he has worked with organisations in developing their business continuity strategies and plans in other countries including the UK, Scandinavia, Italy, Eastern Europe, Turkey, China, India and Indonesia.
He has considerable experience in exercising business continuity plans. He is a strong supporter of business continuity standards – in particular BS 25999 – and this is reflected in his approach and methodology.
